Superiorland Pet Partners won the 2019 Wildcat Wellness Health Fair Robin Rahoi Award for the Best Display. The final installment of the award, named for the late NMU registered dietician, was given to the display judged to be most interactive and attractive, with a good health promotion message. The display also was the attendee favorite at the health fair. 

Northern Michigan University's Board of Trustees recently approved the renaming of the New Science Facility to Kathleen Shingler Weston Hall. In honor of Women's History Month, we take a closer look at Weston, one of NMU's first female graduates who went on to complete a medical degree. She became part of the team that developed the Salk polio vaccine and was honored by President Lyndon B. Johnson as one of the nation's “Outstanding Medical Women.”

Northern Michigan University will launch a new online ticketing system for athletic, theater, music and community events on Monday, April 1. The shift to University Tickets software will simplify and enhance the user experience through upgraded technology. It includes the following features: electronic ticket delivery; a “handoff” feature for texting a ticket to someone else if the purchaser can't attend; views from seating sections in each venue; and options to add events to personal calendars and share on social media. The hope is that this modernized system will reduce paper tickets and box office traffic, particularly for high-demand events such as hockey playoffs.

Two representatives of the da Vinci Center at Virginia Commonwealth University hosted workshops this week on how design thinking and entrepreneurship can help Northern overcome projected enrollment challenges. They also met with a number of academic departments seeking to transform programs.

Actress Angela Kinsey, best known for her role on the NBC television series The Office, will give a presentation at Northern Michigan University. The event is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, in Jamrich 1100. The presentation is free for students with a valid NMU ID and $2 for general public.
