Alumni Achievement Award Winner: Tom Fish

Tom Fish said a realtor once told him “there's a buyer for every house.” Those words resonated with the 1969 Northern Michigan University graduate throughout his personal life and lengthy career working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Alumni Service Award Winner: Jon Mommaerts

Northern Michigan University alumnus Jon Mommaerts of Marquette said “it was outside of the classroom where I learned everything that made me who I am today.” It seems an appropriate sentiment from someone who has enhanced the area's outdoor silent sports culture by helping to establish a renowned trail network and world-class skiing and biking events.

Police Academy Holds Meeting in Escanaba

The Northern Michigan University Regional Police Academy will host two informational meetings on Monday, Oct. 21, at Bay College in Escanaba. Both sessions will be held in the Bonifas Building: one at 10 a.m. in room 231; and the other at noon in room 225.

Morrison Performs Senior Recital at NMU

Northern Michigan University's Music Department will host a senior recital featuring Anna Morrison of Marquette on piano at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, in Reynolds Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Two Books Two Communities Holds October Events

The Two Books Two Communities program has organized October community events in Marquette and Munising that revolve around this year's Great Lakes-themed selections The Living Great Lakes by Jerry Dennis and Harborless, a collection of poems by Cindy Hunter Morgan.
