Alumnus Stephen Dupuie is putting his NMU education to use renovating an old Kalamazoo church building into a new venue for his sketch comedy group, The Dormouse Troupe. The facility will also host music shows and other performances that are “off the beaten path” of traditional theater.

Northern Michigan University will host an active environmental stewardship forum titled “Learn & Spring Into Action” on Tuesday, March 17, in 1100 Jamrich Hall. The free event is open to the public and is sponsored by the NMU Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences Department, as well as Lions Club International.

Michigan's presidential primary is approaching, and two Northern Michigan University students selected to serve on the new Collegiate Student Advisory Task Force under Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson have been working to increase young voter engagement.

Northern Michigan University alumnus Kevin Beauchamp will serve as the next president of Galloway Company, a specialty dairy product manufacturer based in Neenah, Wis. 

The Northern Michigan University Department of Music will present a choral concert with a global theme at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Reynolds Recital Hall. Titled "A Journey Around the World," the choirs will perform music from several different countries, including Sweden, South Korea, the Philippines and more. Admission is free.

Northern Michigan University's Department of Music will present a free Piano Duet Festival beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29, in Reynolds Recital Hall. The festival will showcase the work of local piano teachers Esther Barrington and Nancy Railey, along with their students. Local pianist Lynne Lanczy will also perform. 

Northern Michigan University is one of the two Michigan universities that appear on the “Most Affordable Four-Year Colleges and Universities by State” listing released by University Headquarters (HQ).

Journalist and media historian Gilad Halpern will present “The Role of the Media in Democratic Decline" at Northern Michigan University. His talk and a Q&A session will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, in Peninsula 5 in the Northern Center. It is free and open to the public.

Northern Michigan University will present its Three Minute Thesis, or 3MT, competition at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 in the Mead Auditorium in West Science. The public is invited. Graduate students and McNair scholars will showcase their theses in three minutes with only one slide and language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. 

Northern Michigan University has announced the 13 students who comprise the new group of scholars in the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. 

The Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees has approved room and board rates for the 2020-21 academic year.

NMU and the EcoReps student organization are sponsoring a “Big Green Idea” challenge designed to make Northern a more sustainable campus. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to submit proposals. The winning individual or small team proposal will be awarded $500 and Eco Reps will contribute $5,000 toward implementing the project.

When Northern Michigan University graduate student Katherine Belliel first visited Turkey, she said her “soul felt like it had come home.” The Grand Rapids native ended up living in the country for 15 years, until a failed coup attempt convinced her to return with her family to the United States. Her time abroad inspired Belliel to co-edit Expat Sofra: Culinary Tales of Foreign Women in Turkey. 

Comedy hypnotist Nadeen Manuel is coming to NMU for a performance at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb 19, in Jamrich 1100. The performance is part of Winterfest activities. Admission is free for NMU students with ID and $2 for the general public. 

Northern Michigan University is the only Midwest representative on the 30 Most Beautiful Ski Town Colleges listing released by Online College Plan. NMU ranks 15th.

The parents of Todd Honch – known as “Stix” by many because he was considered an excellent drummer—have endowed a scholarship to memorialize his passion for Northern Michigan University bands and sporting events.

Northern Michigan University ranks 2nd among small public schools nationwide that have been designated 2020-21 Military Friendly Schools by VIQTORY Media. This is Northern's third-consecutive appearance in the Top 10 and its highest placement. NMU is the only Michigan institution in the Top 10 rankings for that category. 

The NMU Quiz Bowl team is awaiting word on a possible return to the national championship after competing in the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) sectional Feb. 8 in Minneapolis. Sophomore Jakob Lippert was the second-highest individual scorer among 47 players at the tourney.
