Five Northern Michigan University alumni, faculty and staff were among 11 recipients of the 24th annual City of Marquette Art Awards, presented Sunday, Sept. 12. The red-carpet affair honored outstanding individuals who have made an impact on arts and culture in Marquette. 

Northern Michigan University's Department of Music will host the first Jazz Ensembles concert of the 2021 Fall Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, in Reynolds Recital Hall. 

A free book launch party for Dorothy Paad's "Dance Your Dance, Sing Your Song," based on her positive experience overcoming challenges related to cerebral palsy and other factors to achieve her goal of taking dance classes at NMU, will be held Thursday, Sept. 23. The event is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. at NMU's Forest Roberts Theatre. It will feature a dance performance by NMU students, a book signing, light snacks and refreshments, and posters and other related items available for purchase. Masks are required.

Northern Michigan University is the 20th best public university in the Midwest region, according to the 2022 U.S News & World Report rankings released Monday morning.

Northern Michigan University will host a Law Enforcement Torch Run—a community run, walk or bike event—to benefit Special Olympics Michigan on Tuesday, Sept. 14. 

orthern Michigan University Adjunct Assistant Professor Forrest Toegel will give a presentation titled “Promoting Health and Prosperity Using Behavior Analysis'' at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at 2906 West Science Hall on NMU's campus. The presentation is part of the Psychological Science Colloquium Series.

Northern Michigan University's incoming first-year students, along with the number of credit hours they are taking, both increased by more than 10% for only the second time since 2000, according to its 10th day enrollment report. NMU has also increased the total population served through its many learning options and its Educational Access Network, which delivers broadband to a number of previously underserved U.P. locations.

Northern Michigan University's indoor agriculture program has received a special delivery to enhance education, research and partnership opportunities. A new shipping container that houses a state-of-the-art growing center is located just outside of the Jacobetti Complex. Its operation will be supervised by students and the produce it generates will be distributed to NMU's hospitality management program and campus dining facilities.

Emily Lanctot wakes up bright and early every day to devote an hour or more to doing what she loves: working in her home art studio. Some days, she spends this time conducting research for her artwork. Other days, she is hands-on in her creative mode, working on one of her many ongoing projects. These include a series for an upcoming show at the Copper Country Community Arts Center that revolves around domestic landscapes and architectural facades that become so familiar they go unnoticed.

Northern Michigan University's Visiting Writers Series will host a free presentation by award-winning journalist and Backpacker magazine senior editor Tracy Ross at 7 p.m. Due to Covid-19 travel issues, this will be an all virtual event.
