Manufacturing Consortium Receives Major Grant

The Upper Peninsula Manufacturing Consortium, convened by Northern Michigan University to meet industry workforce demands by facilitating multiple career pathways, has received a grant worth nearly $1.3 million.

Second Showing of 'Anatomy of a Murder' Added

Due to popular demand, Northern Michigan University's Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center has added a second viewing of the film Anatomy of a Murder in the Marquette County Courthouse. Screenings are now scheduled at 1 p.m. Monday, July 1 and Tuesday, July 2.  Seating will be first come, first served, with a suggested donation of $5 at the door.

'Dr. P' Leaves Seven-Figure Bequest to NMU

The legacy of James Panowski—known fondly as “Dr. P”—will endure for many years at Northern Michigan University. Before his death in May 2018, the former director of Forest Roberts Theatre designated a bequest of more than $1 million to the Mildred and Albert Panowski Playwriting Award and the James A. Panowski Theatre Scholarship at NMU.

Alumna Ascends Ladder at Kennedy Center

Northern Michigan University alumna Abbie Beekman ('16 BA) has advanced rapidly in a career that allows her to apply her double major in public relations and music at the nation's premier cultural and performance venue: the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

'Anatomy of a Murder' and Boat Building Exhibits at NMU

Exhibits on the 60th anniversary of the making of the film Anatomy of a Murder and traditional wooden boat building in the Upper Peninsula are currently on display at Northern Michigan University. They can be viewed at the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center in Gries Hall.
