Poverty Simulation Impacts Students

A participant is "arrested" for child abandonment and neglect.

About 80 NMU students representing various academic majors recently participated in a poverty simulation at the Northern Center. The experience was far more impactful than a traditional lecture in helping students comprehend and empathize with situations they are likely to encounter in their careers.

Alumnus to Open Performance Venue in Kalamazoo

Feb. 24, 2020 —
Alumnus Stephen Dupuie is putting his NMU education to use renovating an old Kalamazoo church building into a new venue for his sketch comedy group, The Dormouse Troupe. The facility will also host music shows and other performances that are “off the beaten path” of traditional theater.

NMU Holds Environmental Stewardship Forum

Northern Michigan University will host an active environmental stewardship forum titled “Learn & Spring Into Action” on Tuesday, March 17, in 1100 Jamrich Hall. The free event is open to the public and is sponsored by the NMU Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences Department, as well as Lions Club International.

Students Improving Young Voter Engagement

Michigan's presidential primary is approaching, and two Northern Michigan University students selected to serve on the new Collegiate Student Advisory Task Force under Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson have been working to increase young voter engagement.
