The Northern Michigan University Music Department will host its first NMU choral concert of the fall semester at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, in a new location: St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Marquette. Admission to the "Sacred Currents" concert is free and open to the public.
Director and Professor Erin Colwitz will be assisted by student directors and choral music education majors Jessica Schrader and Sophie Laskaris. The concert will feature sacred choral works with the Arts Chorale and the University Choir, along with Professor Patrick Booth on saxophone and Jan Brodersen on organ.
"This will be a unique concert," said Colwitz. "Sacred music offers a great educational experience about the history of choral music for our students and community."
Colwitz has been director of choral activities at NMU since August 2015. She conducts the Arts Chorale and the University Choir, and serves as the Music Director of the Marquette Choral Society. Under her leadership, NMU choirs have toured Finland, Austria and Poland, as well as various venues in the United States. Colwitz is a frequent guest conductor, lecturer, contest adjudicator and choral clinician throughout the United States.
St. Paul's Episcopal Church is located at 201 E. Ridge Street.
