Guitar Concert Kicks off NMU Summer Series

The inaugural "Summer Concerts at Reynolds" series at Northern Michigan University will kick off with guitar professor Christopher Shoelen at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, in Reynolds Recital Hall. He will present a program that features some of the most renowned pieces for the Spanish guitar, and transport the audience to the streets of Spain with passionate Andalusian harmonies.

Shoelen's classical guitar concert will include works by iconic composers such as Villa-Lobos, Tárrega, and Albéniz. Admission is free.

This summer's concerts highlight the NMU Music Department's faculty, all of whom are highly trained professional musicians, in addition to teaching full time. One or more faculty members will be featured during each performance. The remaining schedule is (all start at 5 p.m., unless otherwise indicated): 

July 1: Mark Flaherty, trumpet

July 8: The Marquette Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet at 4 p.m.

July 15: James A. Strain, percussion

July 29: Patrick Booth, saxophone
