Donor-Funded Scholarship Application Window Opens

Northern Michigan University students are encouraged to apply for donor-funded scholarships for the 2025-2026 academic year before the midnight deadline on Monday, Feb. 17. Last year, NMU awarded more than 700 scholarships totaling about $1.4 million in aid. Award amounts can range from $500 to a full ride.

While some scholarships are specific to academic majors such as business, biology, music or English, many are open to students from any field of study. Not all are GPA-based and some focus on leadership and community service instead.

Applicants will be reviewed by various campus committees throughout March and April. Awards will be added to student accounts from mid-May through early summer.

Scholarships that are offered through the NMU Foundation are privately funded by donors who have created these opportunities for a variety of reasons. Often, these scholarships or endowments are established to honor a family member, classmate, mentor, friend or faculty member. In some instances, the scholarship supports a specific area of study or students from a particular region.

NMU WellBeing will also host a workshop for students interested in applying for donor-funded scholarships from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29. For more information on this event, click here

To apply for scholarships, log in to MyNMU, click on the Foundation Scholarships tab (new students can find this option under Admitted to NMU on MyNMU). After logging in, the system will ask a few questions and display the scholarships for which students are most qualified. Complete the application process, ensuring that all requirements are met before submitting.
