The Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health is partnering with the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan to offer Seizure Recognition and First Aid Training on Monday, Nov. 13. The training runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Northern Center's Peninsula II room. It's free and open to the public, thanks to funding from the Michigan Pediatric Epilepsy Project, but a reservation is required.

The Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center is showing a virtual presentation of the Historical Society of Michigan's "History Hounds." Historian David Curtis Skaggs will examine decisive victories of the War of 1812 on the Great Lakes. The viewing will occur at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, in Jamrich Hall 1313. It is free and open to the public.

A Northern Michigan University associate professor published a scholarly book about British literature of World War II that looks at fictional British diplomats, officials and spies in books and films that respond to wartime Fascism and to the political instability of the postwar years.

A diverse group of Northern Michigan University biology students and professionals from state and federal wildlife agencies recently learned how to safely and ethically tranquilize animals during a three-day professional development course in wildlife chemical immobilization and handling at NMU.

Northern Michigan University's Department of Biology has introduced “Be Well in Weston," a program designed to make it easy to participate in fun physical and mental health activities on campus and promote well-being for faculty, staff and students.

The Northern Michigan University Orchestra, under the direction of Barbara Rhyneer, is holding a concert at the Reynolds Recital Hall. They are performing with “Symphony Strings” from Marquette High School in a concert titled, “You Will be Found.” The 7:30 p.m. performance on Tuesday, Oct. 24, is free and open to the public.

To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Northern Michigan University Theatre and Dance invites youth ages 13 through high school seniors to attend a musical theater and dance intensive. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, with lunch provided, in Forest Roberts Theatre.

A Halloween concert tiled "The Witching Hour," with performing artists and a costume contest, will take place at Northern Michigan University. The event begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in the Northern Center's Grand Ballrooms. It is the second annual concert presented by Northern Michigan Artist Discovery (NoMAD). The general public pays an entry fee of $10 cash, and NMU students enter for free with a student ID.

The Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees today approved a 2023-24 general fund operating budget that includes $3.3 million in new investments and initiatives. NMU will increase financial aid and scholarships by $1.5 million. A majority of this support is made up of new awards such as Tuition Advantage, a “last dollar” scholarship that covers the remaining balance after federal, state and institutional funding is applied, and the Bridge Award, which fills the out of state tuition gap. The budget also recognizes the elimination of the NMU undergraduate application fee.

A well-known fact in the recruitment and admissions office at Northern Michigan University is that the campus visit is a key factor in attracting students to NMU and Marquette. Adeline (Addi) Pavlo had heard great things, but it wasn't until she set foot on campus that she was convinced NMU was the place for her.
