Northern Michigan University alumnus Peter Baril is the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department's new chief officer. He earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from NMU in 2009.
According to a press release, Baril has spent the past 23 years working in the field of public health and safety in at least four different health departments in Michigan, and at Michigan Tech University.
"I've worked in many different capacities in the Western U.P. Health Department over roughly 15 years," said Baril, who most recently served as deputy health officer and director of environmental health before his new appointment. "The role of chief health officer will be the most complex, but I'm looking forward to the challenge."
The Copper Country native also holds a bachelor's degree in environmental health from Lake Superior State University.
