Northern Michigan University alumnus Andy Skewis is early in his first year as superintendent of Negaunee Public Schools (NPS). He was appointed to the position after the retirement of his third cousin and fellow NMU alumnus Dan Skewis.
Andy earned a bachelor's degree in English/secondary education in 1997, and an MAE in educational administration/supervision. He has worked in the Negaunee school district for the last 25 years. He served in various roles within the district, including coach, teacher, mentor and his previous administrative position as the Middle School assistant principal/athletic director.
"Andy brings a deep understanding of the values, culture and needs of our community to the helm from having been a long-standing employee, proud parent of two NHS graduates, and an alumnus himself," stated NPS.
"He has a strong foundation of professional experiences and relationships that will support his new educational leadership role. In addition, he understands the importance of maintaining strong academic standards and adapting to the evolving needs of the students our district serves. His comprehensive view of education as a whole will benefit our students, staff, and community. We look forward to the continued success and growth of our school district under his leadership as Superintendent.”
Retired superintendent Dan Skewis graduated in 1994 with an elementary education degree and also earned an MAE in the same concentration in 1999.
