Northern Michigan University alumna Shannon Konoske is getting settled in to her relatively new role as news director at WLUC-TV6 in Marquette. She oversees the station's news operations, guides editorial direction and fosters innovative approaches to engage viewers across TV6 & FOX UP platforms.
“I am honored to be trusted by this station's incredible people to lead our news team,” Konoske said in a TV6 announcement. “They have chosen to trust me not just with news, but with the legacy of TV6, and I don't take that lightly. I feel very fortunate to work with not only great anchors and journalists, but with great people at heart. I'm excited to see how we can work together to keep growing and doing our best for Upper Michigan.”
Konoske hails from western Oregon, where she earned her bachelor's degree in creative writing at Pacific University. However, in 2017, she traded in her western boots for snow boots and decided to make the 2,100-mile drive from the Pacific Coast of Oregon to Marquette, where she completed a Master of Arts degree in English at NMU in 2019.
Following her graduation, Konoske remained in Marquette and joined TV6 in 2021 as an assistant assignment editor, with previous experience in print journalism and teaching. She quickly proved to be an asset to the team, according to a TV6 announcement on her news director role, as she strived to highlight the many stories of less visible communities through many forms of media.
The following year, Konoske was promoted to assignment editor, where she took on the primary planning and production of the new TV6 Investigates brand. In 2024, she was promoted to assistant news director, continuing her passion for in-depth reporting on critical issues.
Konoske's background in creative writing and English studies from her time at Pacific University and NMU, as well as her innate storywriting abilities, have made her a valuable part of TV6, according to the announcement.
“Shannon's dedication to journalistic excellence and her understanding of the unique stories that matter to our Upper Michigan audience make her the ideal choice for this role,” said WLUC Vice President/General Manager Rick Rhoades. “We are excited to see her vision shape the future of our newsroom.”
